WHY I CREATED BEAUTY INSIDE OUT
Because true beauty is about how we feel within and how we recognise ourselves in the mirror.
I have always loved beauty. I see it in people, nature, architecture, clothes, beautiful spaces and the smallest details. I love aesthetics, and I love feeling beautiful myself.
For a long time, especially when I was younger, I sometimes wondered whether caring about how I looked made me vain. I don't believe that anymore.
Our external appearance is part of how we express ourselves, how we show up in the world and how we recognise ourselves. Losing my hair taught me just how deeply our appearance can be connected to our identity. But it also taught me something even more important.
External beauty can support us, but it cannot do the inner work for us.
When alopecia changed the woman I saw in the mirror, I had to begin a much deeper journey within. I had to understand who I was beyond my appearance. I had to look at my values, the stories I was telling myself, the things I believed about beauty and femininity, and the fear and shame that had kept me hiding for so many years.
I began to understand that confidence grows from knowing ourselves, accepting ourselves and learning to treat ourselves with compassion. For me, that has meant caring for my mind, body and soul and slowly reconnecting with the person underneath everything I thought I needed to be.
But I don't believe that inner beauty is somehow more important than external beauty.
I believe both matter.
We can do the inner work and still want to look in the mirror and recognise ourselves. We can learn to accept ourselves without hair and still love wearing beautiful hair. We can know that our worth comes from within while also enjoying clothes, makeup, hair, and all the other ways we choose to express ourselves.
For me, Beauty Inside Out is about bringing those two worlds together.
And I also believe we aren't meant to navigate difficult changes alone.
One of the things I needed most during my own alopecia journey was someone who truly understood. Someone who had walked the path before me. Someone who could say, I know this is hard. I've been here too. You don't have to have all the answers today.
There is enormous comfort in being supported by people who understand not only the practical reality of hair loss, but also the emotional journey happening underneath it.
That is the space I want Beauty Inside Out to offer.
A place where you can be seen and supported. Where we can talk honestly about identity, confidence, fear and change. Where you can explore what feeling like yourself means to you, without anyone telling you what that should look like.
There is no one right way to live with alopecia.
Sometimes feeling like yourself might mean finding beautiful hair that makes you recognise the woman in the mirror again. Sometimes it might mean taking your wig off. Sometimes it might simply mean taking one small step towards accepting something you never asked for.
I have walked this path myself. Now I want to walk alongside other women as they find their own way forward, nurturing the woman within while having the freedom to express the woman they want to see in the mirror.
That is Beauty Inside Out.
